Where to Go & When in 2016

Planning for a honeymoon or a family trip? Here are some ideas on where to holiday each month of the year in 2016 for the most amazing sights and the best time to see them.

1. January, The Gold Coast, Australia

It is right in the middle of summer season in The Gold Coast, Australia where the weather is a pleasant 20-28 Degrees Celsius. It’s the perfect time for some fun in the sun for the entire family. Whether you’re planning to go snorkelling in The Great Barrier Reef or hitting the many theme parks, The Gold Coast has plenty to offer in January. And if you’re travelling toward the end of January, you’re in time to celebrate Australia Day on the 26th of January.

2. February - Cairo, Egypt

This is the best time to visit Cairo and the Nile Delta region where the average temperature is 20-25 Degrees Celsius during the day. Visiting the ancient Pyramids of Giza will be much more pleasant in the cooler weather and great for those who want to avoid the sun. The Abu Simbel Sun Festival, a biannual festival, marks the date of King Ramses II’s ascension to the throne on 22nd February 2016, and his birthday on 22nd October 2016. It is only on these 2 days, where the sun would align and illuminate the inner sanctum of the Abu Simbel Temple.

3. March - The Maldives

During the month of March, the Maldives has the lowest rain fall and experiences the most hours of sunshine in the entire year, making it the perfect time to enjoy the crystal clear waters and to self-indulge a little.

4. April - Amsterdam, Holland & Japan

It’s flower season for both Amsterdam and Japan in April. The Keukenhof or Amsterdam’s Tulip& Flower Festival starts in April through to early May, where you can take in the stunning sight of more than seven million tulips, daffodils and hyacinths filling over 32 hectares with colour and perfume.  And on 27th April, it’s King’s Day, the biggest national event in Holland to celebrate the King’s Willem-Alexander’s birthday. Over in Japan, it’s Sakura season where the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the season is celebrated with hanami (flower viewing) picnics or Sakura parties under the trees.

5. May - Prague, Czech Republic

Springtime in Prague is a terrific time to visit when the weather is milder at an average of 18 Degrees Celsius and the summer tourists have yet to arrive. It’s also the perfect opportunity to get your dose of culture at the Prague Spring International Music Festival which runs for 3 weeks with symphony, opera and chamber concerts.

6. June - Iceland

This is when Iceland experiences a natural phenomenon called the Midnight Sun, where the sun never fully sets and remains visible 24 hours a day. The seamlessly never ending days are celebrated with numerous arts and music festivals, such as the Secret Solstice Festival, a music festival which features a multi-genre line-up against Iceland’s breath-taking natural backdrop.

7. July - Kenya & Tanzania

If going on a wildlife safari is on your travel bucket list, this would be the ideal time to visit Kenya and Tanzania to witness the annual Wildebeest Migration. This is one of the world’s most spectacular natural events, where over a million wildebeest, zebra, gazelles and antelope migrate clockwise around the Serengeti/Masai Mara ecosystem.

8. August - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

During Brazil’s winter season, tourists can expect milder weather which is ideal for sightseeing and enjoying the vibrant city of Rio De Janeiro. And this year, in August they play host to the 2016 Olympic Games.

9. September - Jordan

Jordan is one of the most visitor-friendly countries of the Middle East, but remains unseen by many. It’s one of the oldest countries in the world dating back to 300 B.C.E and home to the awe-inspiring archaeologist site, Petra. The summer heatwave would have ended and temperatures become more pleasant with a maximum temperature of 30 Degrees Celsius during the day, and 18 Degrees Celsius at night. It’s the perfect time to snorkel in the crystal clear waters of the Red Sea, travel into the Valley of the Moon on camel or horseback, and to head out into the desert at night to enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner and star gazing.

10. October - Shanghai, China

With an average temperature of 24 Degrees Celsius, it is in October when the weather is neither too hot, nor too rainy making it the most comfortable season to visit Shanghai, China. It would be a good time to check out the newly opened Shanghai Disneyland which will feature Treasure Cove, the first pirate-themed land at a Disney park; a massive garden made out of seven separate gardens called the Gardens of Imagination; and the Enchanted Storybook Castle, the tallest, largest and most interactive Disney castle in the world.

11. November - Vietnam & Cambodia

In November, Northern Vietnam is warm and sunny, and Cambodia is entering its dry season but with temperatures still relatively cool in the mid 20°C’s making it the most ideal month to explore these two neighbouring countries. The beaches in Vietnam would be less busy, and the “cooler” weather Cambodia would mean more comfortable conditions for those who want to maximise their time at the Angkor Temples.

12. December - New Zealand

It’s the start of summer, when New Zealand beaches come alive and experiences the perfect weather for outdoor adventuring. It’s nice and sunny during the day without getting hot or balmy, and cool in the evening with temperature hovering between 20 Degrees Celsius and 30 Degrees Celsius. The days are longer and the best time to discover the city of Auckland or rugged coastlines of Muriwai Bay.
