Cold soups, meant for the summer, are the likes of Okroshka (milk based soup with a mix of vegetables or meat) and Botvynya (soup made with the leaves of root vegetables). While popular hot soups, usually consumed during the winter, are Shchi (cabbage soup), Solyanka (a cucumber based soup) and Borsch (cabbage and beet soup).
